Opening a Brave New World Part 3: Documenta

Kim Junsu paints small fragments of life in dynamic forms and colors. His canvases, lined with the fleeting small thoughts of each passing moment, are a painter's record of a personal, unassuming everyday life.

Lee Younghoo reflects on the humanity that cannot be replaced by artificial intelligence in an efficiency-driven capitalist society. He records fragments of fleeting obsessions as drawings, digitizes and structurally designs them, then has them visualized as a single mass through laser cutting — a work the artist calls a "chunk of obsession."

Jeon Yunjo shapes the human form by winding thread. The overlapping image of an incomplete body — or a part of it — with thin thread brings to the surface the isolation and alienation we feel from the limits of communication.

Ju Sangmin grasps the world around him through the concepts of time, space, and existence. Amid time and space, he gathers the memories that constitute existence and gives them form as sculpture.

Through her "Suitcase Window" series (2010), Cha Minyoung depicts the world glimpsed through the "gap" within a "frame."

Choi Jei imbues motifs such as deer, dolls, birds, candlesticks, and flowers with symbolism, arranging them unconsciously across the canvas to compose a space where the inner self is expressed.

Through the eyes of these six formidable contemporary artists, each recording the outside world onto their own canvas, we hope visitors will sense the diversity of their perspectives and, in surveying the results of that record, explore the essence of life as something beyond what is visible.
