Ufan Lee

Ufan Lee (b. 1936) was a leading figure of Japan's Mono-ha movement and is credited with transcending the limits of Minimalism through Eastern philosophy, becoming the first Asian artist to hold a solo exhibition at the Musée national d'art moderne in Paris, alongside shows at the Guggenheim and Versailles. From the 1970s series "From Point" and "From Line," through "Wind" in the 1980s, to "Correspondence" (Dialogue) from the 1990s onward — single brushstrokes on large canvases — his work philosophically explores the relationship between being, objects and space.
