2011 Abstraction Exhibition: Falling into Abstractionism

Abstraction is often considered difficult, requiring more time to understand and yielding many differing interpretations — but that openness is also what allows abstract art to broaden the spectrum of thought. This 2011 exhibition invites viewers to shed that preconception, featuring Chicago-based Y.K. Byun's restrained color abstractions, the late Sunghee Shin's cut-and-knotted canvases that extend painting into sculptural and installation space, Lee Ufan (showing concurrently at the Guggenheim New York from June 25), and works by Sangeun Sung, Sungpil Lim, and Myungsik Cho.
