Greenness is not merely nature's color — it is the ground of life we must protect, and one of the deepest subjects art must contemplate. Nature has always been a wellspring of artistic inspiration, and its inherent vitality and order of circulation have been continually revived through creative expression.
German conceptual artist Joseph Beuys (1921–1986) expanded art into social practice, questioning the relationship between humans and nature. He believed art could be more than aesthetic — a means of healing and transforming society and environment — through his concept of "social sculpture."
Under Soohoh Gallery's 2025 annual theme, "Environment and Art," this exhibition, "Guarding the Green," seeks reflection and the possibility of recovering the green we are losing. Across Eastern and Western painting, figuration and abstraction, eleven artists each interpret the symbol of green through their own lens — as a landscape of memory, a visualization of ecological sensibility, or an imagined harmony of nature and life.
We invite you to this exhibition, resonant and quiet as the green of spring, listening for the green we must guard amid the changing seasons.
