A being at once the most beautiful and the most cruel. This work is grounded in an "exploration of the human." This exhibition began with simply looking at a newborn baby. An ordinary creature of bone and flesh, and yet a being whose very existence is a marvel — one that cannot survive without the help of others. A being who is not yet anyone, like a blank sheet of paper, and therefore holds infinite possibility. That "these children" grow up to become "us" felt both mysterious and poignant. Just ordinary people we pass in the street. People who, in time, go to school, go to work, marry, and grow old — us. What kind of person will that baby become when it grows up? Just as the colors applied to a blank page determine the picture, perhaps a person is defined by the thoughts and actions they choose. What benefits humanity most, and what harms it most, have in the end both been us. An ordinary — and yet mysterious — being who can be at once the most beautiful and the most cruel. The baby, the person, me, us.
