Hyunjin Park: Light, Drawn with Wire

Light, drawn with wire. Looking at the objects we so casually encounter in daily life, I sensed their essence, and I came to think of the meaning held within that deductive flow as a "language of line." Layering expansion and contraction, according to my own understanding, over time, I arrived not at a mere product faithful to its function, but at a three-dimensional drawing — an object possessing a value beyond function. By expressing and presenting this object in another language, I give shape to another kind of formative imagination, reinterpreting the biases and fixed notions we carry within us. I image the sheep as an animal, bringing it into being visually, and align the meaning of line inherent in the material with that image, so that it seeps into and connects within the space of the three-dimensional drawing — as though continually branching outward, giving movement through line to empty space. From this emerges a drawing charged with life, carrying yet another layer of meaning. I hope this drawing seeps into people's hearts like light, stirring sensibility and awakening imagination. And so this work hopes to begin from a single point, pass through space, and circulate into people's imagination, letting the drawing continually branch onward.
