Walchong Lee

Walchong Lee (b. 1945) has held some 25 solo exhibitions in Seoul, New York, Paris and Tokyo since his 1971 debut. After teaching at Chugye University for the Arts, he relocated to Seogwipo, Jeju, to focus on painting. Moving beyond the classical conventions of Korean ink painting, he modernized ink-and-color technique with free composition and vivid color, expressing the ordinary rhythms of daily life through the philosophy of "the Middle Way" — a world without bias, where humans, animals and everyday objects share equal footing.
