Sunwoo Kim
김선우

Known as the "dodo bird artist," Sunwoo Kim (b. 1988) is widely recognized through galleries, auctions, social media and brand collaborations, and is especially popular among young collectors. His recurring dodo motif — a bird once abundant on Mauritius Island that, having no fear of humans and no need to fly, was hunted to extinction — becomes a metaphor for modern people who mistake comfortable circumstances for paradise and, in doing so, give up their own freedom.
He earned a BFA in Western Painting from Dongguk University (2015) and has received numerous awards, including the Samsung Bespoke Rendezvous Award (2019) and the Breeze Prize (2018).
