Byungjong Kim

Byungjong Kim (b. 1953) is widely known as a "painter who writes," having won two major newspapers' literary debut prizes and the presidential award at a national student art exhibition while still in college. He holds a PhD in Oriental philosophy from Sungkyunkwan University and taught at Seoul National University, where he served as dean of the College of Fine Arts. Known for decades as the "artist of life," he paints flowers, trees, portraits of Jesus and travel landscapes with free, dynamic brushwork on a distinctive thick-textured hanji ground, drawing on both Western relief and Eastern embossing techniques.
