Kwangil Park

Kwangil Park (b. 1964) is a sculptor who renders familiar-yet-unfamiliar creatures — pufferfish, rays — with a cute, playful character that draws viewers closer, even as the toxins those fish carry for self-protection hint at a critique of appearance-obsessed modern life. He studied sculpture at Seoul National University and its graduate school and teaches at Kyonggi University. His early, large-scale marble and bronze sculptures gave way to more colorful, contemporary works.
