Alex Katz
알렉스 카츠

Alex Katz (b. 1927, New York) renders his subjects with bold, simplified composition, restrained color, and a cool, controlled mood. A leading figure of the "American style," he developed a signature vocabulary — double-portraits placing two faces side by side on one canvas, thinly brushed monochrome backgrounds, cut-out silhouettes, and dramatically scaled figures — now known as the "Katz style." His work has been the subject of major retrospectives at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, the Musée de l'Orangerie, and Tate Liverpool, among others.
