Hyejun Mo: Solo Exhibition

Looking back over human history, the status of women has steadily improved, and today women appear to live on socially equal footing with men. Women's participation in society has never been more active, with women elected as presidents in countries around the world. And yet it remains difficult to find a woman who has never felt the sexism that persists everywhere, and many, having internalized that inequality, still place themselves in a submissive, subordinate position.

Artist Hyejun Mo, who portrays the emotions of lapdogs and women alike, begins from the observation that both are expected to be "cute, obedient, and in need of care." His work vividly depicts the desire for domination and submission, oppression and liberation, offering viewers a way to reflect on women oppressed within society. Through this exhibition, we hope visitors will look inward, come to a deeper understanding of the human longing for liberation, and bring a consciousness of freedom and equality to the surface.

We hope this time at Soohoh Gallery becomes an occasion to think — starting from the lapdog — about social minorities and marginalized voices, and about what true equality means in a world where humanity can live well together.
