Darkness was a time of insight that meets the world with the eye of the mind, a time of rest, and something like a symbol of a hard, painful era waiting for dawn.

Is what we see truly what exists, or an illusion? "A person sees only what they wish to see."

Even as beings endowed with reason and intellect, we have, throughout history, faced countless pain, death, and sorrow born of mistakes, misjudgments, and false beliefs. It feels as though lyric and epic poems for those who thereby vanished nameless, and for all that remains invisible, still echo back to us.

We who live today in a developed civilization, amid abundance, must give deep thanks for having come to sing of the beauty of night.

In the digitized images Kwon Minseol reinterprets for our time: "our night is more beautiful than day."

Through geographic, historical, social, and ideological trials and suffering, we never lost hope and dreams, and were blessed to greet a new era within history's great wheel, carried by an unbending will and beautiful souls.

I hope that the wisdom and courage rising from within Kwon Minseol, one of Korea's most notable young artists, meets her creativity to make for a fascinating exhibition, and I believe she will grow into a leading figure of art in the coming era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
