Words of Invitation

Father Taewon Kim's work is best represented by his "Taewon Kim lacquer painting," the fruit of years spent researching traditional techniques and materials. Standing before the work of this man who is both priest and artist, one feels a beautiful hymn to human life — a life that has learned much, come to understand much, endured much, and persevered.

It reaffirms that the better life, the happy life we ultimately seek, cannot be filled by material things alone. Watching, over time, his work steeped in knowledge and wisdom, prayer and meditation, one seems to hear the depth and breadth of his world, and the warm yet intellectual message he conveys to humanity as an artist.

That he has been able to hold twelve solo exhibitions alongside his priestly vocation is remarkable and deeply admirable. His childlike laughter and humor, and the artistic spirit that has bloomed within a life transcending the everyday, have become a song within our own lives.
