Taejun Kim Solo Exhibition: Time Capsule — A Memory We Cannot Remember

We live in the present, yet we are always looking back to some moment in the past. Among those past moments, the most comforting state — the one that still heals us today — may be childhood in our parents' arms, or further back still, life as a fetus in our mother's womb. Memories we cannot recall yet long to recall, the span of memory that makes us who we are now: this is what we invite you to briefly revisit alongside artist Taejun Kim in his solo exhibition "Time Capsule — A Memory We Cannot Remember" at Soohoh Gallery.

The rural village where the artist spent his childhood, he says, closely resembles today's Hwaseong. He visited old houses throughout Hwaseong, taking several hundred photographs, and selected a few to use as backgrounds. Onto these background photographs he layers three-dimensional graphic work and his own touch, giving rise to a time capsule uniquely his own.

Taejun Kim, presenting his 21st solo exhibition at Soohoh Gallery, studied fine art at the Berlin University of the Arts and Kassel University of the Arts and later taught as a professor in China. He has participated in more than ninety group exhibitions and projects across Seoul, China, Germany, Italy, Turkey, and Poland.
