Alejandro Martinez Solo Exhibition

We are delighted to celebrate Alejandro's third solo exhibition at Soohoh. Born in Mexico City and enrolled from age three at an American international school, Alejandro Martinez grew up in an environment where two languages coexisted, studying alongside friends from vastly different social and economic backgrounds. That upbringing gave him a desire to explore the world, and over the past decade he has lived and worked in the United States, Japan, China, Mexico, and Korea, honing his craft in each place. Alejandro's new series, gainlost, shows us, through his own singular perspective and philosophy, phenomena and realities we often take for granted in daily life. It captures the solemnity of death and loss, while also expressing, through the artist's own experience, birth as a moment of miracle and awe. Projecting contrasting yet interconnected images — the boundary between life and death, the space between beginning and end, presence and absence — these works carry a philosophical meaning about life, death, gain, and loss, while also revealing the deep understanding of diverse cultures Alejandro has gained through his travels around the world, along with his warm humanity. Through a range of philosophical themes, this exhibition offers an occasion to look back on and reflect upon one's own life. We warmly welcome your interest and your visit.
