Yongsang Yoo
유용상

Yongsang Yoo (b. 1973) paints trembling wine glasses and paper cups to embed philosophy in everyday drink, using layered, shifting focal points to fuse past and present in a single frame and to express the anxious gestures of contemporary life through the fragile, blood-like hue of wine. In "Beautiful Curb," native Korean flowers stand in for people within a wine glass, paradoxically questioning the contradictions of human existence. He holds a BFA from Jeonbuk National University and a BFA and MFA in painting from Hongik University, and has won the Grand Award for Young Artist at the Korea Art Award (2010) and been selected a "Notable Artist of the Year" by the Korean Art Critics Association (2016).
