Sangsu Lee

Sangsu Lee (b. 1968) paints the overlooked, quietly beautiful corners of his hometown Gyeongju, blending realistic depictions of nature with cartoon-like characters drawn from memory and nostalgia. Rather than pure invention, his alleyway scenes are grounded in the reproduction of natural forms and personal recollection, mixing humor and pathos as familiar figures move through time-suspended, faded-photograph landscapes. He studied sculpture at Hongik University's College of Fine Arts and graduate school, and has received the critic's award at the Grand Art Exhibition of Korea; his work is held in the Government Art Bank collection.
